Why is seascape photography so attractive?

Sunrise over Rhodes, Greece

I love seascapes, and photographing them is special because few images can project the feeling of order, simplicity, and calm that seascapes can. Hiroshi Sugimoto’s seascapes are the most sublime and powerful images of serenity for me. Unfortunately, shooting seascapes was not a thing during lockdown in a landlocked country like Switzerland.

But no matter, for when a door is closed, others can be opened with some effort. During my adventure with public webcams, I also found ones looking out onto the beaches, and sometimes when they zoomed and panned, they presented wonderful opportunities to take seascape pictures.

Today, I am sharing one such image from Rhodes, Greece, of a dark, cloudy, early morning sun reflecting on the Ionian sea. At some point, I will share the entire collection of seascapes. Need time to organize them.

This image is from my recently launched photo book, “Scenes from a World in Lockdown.” You you see more about the project here, and buy it directly from this website.
