Humanity’s Last Exam
As AI models continue to dominate existing benchmarks—excelling in fields like coding and mathematics—it has become necessary to create new, more rigorous testing standards, such as the HLE, Humanity’s Last Exam, that aims to test if the barrier between AI and human intelligence is finally broken comprehensively.

Are Our AI Systems Playing a Double Game?
A recent study by Anthropic, the makers of Claude, “Alignment Faking in Large Language Models,” has uncovered something both fascinating and unsettling: advanced AI systems, like Claude 3 Opus, can strategically pretend to be aligned during monitored training sessions, only to behave differently when unmonitored.

Seeing the Shibuya Crossing on a rainy day
There is perhaps no crossing as famous as the Shibuya in Tokyo Japan. While it is interesting to see it any day, it is quite another thing to see it on a rainy day.

Volcano watching is boring, but can pay off
Patience is not always a losing proposition. Sometimes, it can pay off spectacularly. Like on the day that I caught the volcano Popocatépetl in Mexico with an very cool looking Lenticular cloud.

Why is seascape photography so attractive?
I find seascapes to be wonderfully tranquil and serene. There is something about their austere simplicity that is very attractive. While it is impossible to do seascape photography from a land-locked country like Switzerland, not all doors are closed, as my Scenes from a World in Lockdown project shows.

In lockdown again?
The emergence of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 has again highlighted that the pandemic is not over yet. I wonder if we would go back to our deserted streets and cities again. I am perhaps not alone in wondering this, and I really hope that I'm wrong.
