Volcano watching is boring, but can pay off

Image of the volcano Popocatépetl, Mexico

During my webcam project, I not only took pictures of cities and streets, but I also took pictures from webcams installed out there in nature. The reason is that the pandemic also had a huge impact on the natural world, with the absence of people making a big difference in its rejuvenation.

Last week, as I saw a news story about the volcano Semeu's eruption in Indonesia and I was reminded of the images I took of the volcano in Popōcatepētl Mexico. Typically watching a webcam installed by a volcano is the most boring thing you can ever imagine; volcanoes, thankfully, do not erupt every day. However, as if to prove that patience can pay off, the day I took this picture, the volcano was covered by a spectacular lenticular cloud, and just as I pressed the shutter, a flock of white birds took off to make the image even more interesting.

This image is from my recently launched photobook, "Scenes from a World in Lockdown." You can now purchase a signed copy of the book that also comes with a free signed print.
